One Man's
Obsession.
Superhet is the brainchild of Manuel Amaro Jr. Everyone calls him Manny. A New York Rican, born and raised in the South Bronx, he is a veteran barista with over 20 years behind the bar.
This shop is built around one thing: Manny's taste. Not market research. Not what sells. Not what the guy down the block is doing. Superhet is West Harlem specialty coffee made exactly the way one of the most obsessive palates in the city wants it made.
"I hold myself to a very high standard. There's no better feeling than when someone appreciates and enjoys what I have to offer."
He has spent the last decade sharpening that palate. Cupping, brewing, and lately roasting his own. It is a multi-roaster shop, with a menu that pulls from a rotating global lineup, a few house batches, and seasonal drinks built on whatever he is chasing that season.
Nothing sits still for long. Everything is 100% intentional. Every bean, every ratio, every pour, dialed in on purpose.
Which is why the drinks are served the way they are built. Each one is dialed to taste exactly the way it is meant to. That is the whole point. You came here to taste what Manny hears in the coffee, not a version of it. So taste it his way first.
You will also notice the store is filled with the things Manny cares about most: coffee, heavy metal, dogs, and Jesus. This is his shop, top to bottom. That is exactly why it is worth the trip.

Manny's
Roasts
These are the coffees Manny is working on right now: small runs he has roasted, dialed in, and decided are ready for the shelf. The lineup rotates as the beans do, so if one catches you, grab it while it is here.
12 oz - $19Pull-Off Roast - Ethiopia
Ethiopia 74185, washed. A bright, lifted cup with orange, melon, and florals: clean, aromatic, and built for clarity.
12 oz - $19Hammer-On Roast - Peru
Peru Caturra, washed. Rounded and sweet with chocolate, almond paste, and plum: mellow depth with a polished finish.
12 oz - $19Pull-Off Roast - Burundi
Burundi field blend, washed. Black tea, baking spices, and raspberry: structured, juicy, and quietly complex.

Word On The Block
Manny makes the coffee his way. Turns out the block is into that. Here's what they're saying.
This is genuinely some of the best tasting coffee in nyc, as someone who frequently tries coffee shops throughout Brooklyn. 10/10 recommend. The authenticity of the vibes/theme is cool and not something you see everywhere. The music memorabilia inside is like its own mini museum. Definitely a cool place, will be coming back whenever I'm in the area.
Every time I visit NYC, my No.1 priority is to come to Superhet. This is my favorite coffee shop in the city, and a truly special place for coffee enthusiast. The batch brew is great value: The beans used for batch brew are always stellar. The extraction is on point. The price is icing on the cake. The pour over menu are top shelf options. A special treat. The house special, is also fun and delicious.
This is the best coffee shop in NYC hands down. Manuel Amaro has over 20 years of experience in the coffee business and his shop is proof of it. He sources some of the best coffee beans in the world and knows how to extract the flavor out of them. His unique drinks like the coquito latte and tonic water with espresso and spicy lime are something I've never seen before. Come here if you're about coffee and want an actual good cup of it.
What can you say about a solitary coffee experience that has savoir faire in spades, including the Ace of Spades? SuperHet Coffee is owned and operated by one guy — Manny — who is exacting, skilled and unpretentious while being unforgiving in his demands for quality and taste. I didn't know that I needed a close quartered heavy metal coffee shop that regularly serves the finest coffee I have consumed — both in bean quality and preparation. But more than the style and the excellence of the coffee is the full hearted and unapologetic expression of one man's passion. To be a customer of SuperHet is to be in on something good.
I come here bc the coffee/cappuccinos are genuinely very good and the owner takes his job seriously in making you a quality drink as quickly as possible. The coffee/drinks taste a lot better than Double Dutch nearby (no hate to them but it's true). If you're looking for a chatty barista, the owner is not going to be that person. I think he used to be in a metal band and then opened the coffee shop, because really interesting band posters line the walls. The store plays metal music at a reasonable volume, never too loud to be uncomfortable. They have non dairy milk options too.
Great coffee. Excellent espresso, pure enjoyment. Cappuccino with oat milk is also great. A true professional barista. Nice atmosphere and great presentation.
